2015 Vintage: SOLD OUT

Total Production: 250 bottles – Single Barrel Series Tinta Barocca – 11.5% vol.

Wine of Origin: Riebeek Kasteel, Swartland

Sommelier-Winemaker Collaboration with JD Pretorius of De Kleine Wijn Koöp

Tasting Notes: Dusty hedgerow fruit and violet flowers, a tannin structure that’s soft and rounded, but with an incredible tang and fresh acidity for the vintage expression.

Winemaking Notes: An experiment in early harvest for warm climate fruit out in the Swartland – trying to emulate the classic non-fortified Portuguese-style wines made overseas. High acidity, low sugars for a low potential alcohol, but on the flip-side there was an enormous amount of tannin present. After 12 months in old French Oak, and three whole years in bottle, the wine was finally accessible – that acidity being the driving force as opposed to the tannin, showcasing the poise and structure of this noble cultivar.

2016 Vintage: SOLD OUT

Total Production: 296 bottles – Single Barrel Series Cinsault – 13% vol.

Wine of Origin: Paardeberg Mountain, Swartland

Sommelier-Winemaker Collaboration with Martin Lamprecht of Marras Wines

Tasting Notes: An amazing core of fruit presence and aromatics, raspberry compote and strawberry sherbet.

Winemaking Notes: Whole-bunch, basket-pressed into old French Oak to naturally ferment and undergo malolactic fermentation at its leisure. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Sadly this vineyard site is no longer available, but I’d love to be able to play with Cinsault in the future…
